Seasonal Pesticide Applicator
1. Job Overview
Operation of work vehicle with trailer and necessary equipment (must have current driver’s license), two years experience with operation of commercial vehicle and trailer required.
Professional pesticide application knowledge and know-how, one year of commercial experience required.
Comprehensive skill set including:
a. operation and maintenance of 100 gallon tank sprayer, boom sprayer, backpack sprayer and handheld chemical sprayer
b. knowledge and understanding of all pesticide license laws and restrictions
c. knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment necessary for individual chemical application
d. ability to understand and abide by chemical labels, published rates, and Material Safety Data Sheets
e. ability to calculate chemical ratios, mix chemicals according to label information
f. ability to calibrate all types of sprayers according to label instructions
g. ability to completely and accurately fill out all chemical application paperwork
h. knowledge of emergency spill procedures
i. ability to operate anemometer, thermometer, other applicable tools
j. shrub and tree identification and specific care skills
k. common insect, pest and weed identification skills
l. operation of shovels, rakes, axes, brooms and all other applicable hand tools
m. installation of steel, poly, and natural rock edging
n. installation of landscape fabric, mulch, sod, trees, perennials and shrubs
o. installation of all types of underground drainage
p. soil grading; machine and hand grading
q. installation of irrigation parts
r. shrub and tree identification and specific care
s. pruning techniques for shrubs and trees
t. application of fertilizer according to published rates and schedules
u. operation of small power equipment including; skilsaw, sawzall, drill, grinder, plate compactor, jumping jack compactor, lawn mower, hand held/backpack blower, line trimmer, hedge trimmer
v. maintenance and troubleshooting of small power equipment
w. communication skills with employees, clients, and employers
x. enforcement of all safety procedures and protocol
Pre-employment physical screening may be required

2. Management Requirements
Safety procedures and employee training: ensure that employees you manage have been properly trained on all equipment used, as well as proper safety procedures and PPE (personal protective equipment) are used with all tools and equipment, enforcement of safety program at all times.
Efficiency: ensure that proper tools and equipment are used for all tasks, prevention of unnecessary use of labor hours.
Breaks and lunch: use best judgment when determining when breaks and lunch are needed, as related to labor flow during the work day.
Employee policy administration: enforcement of policies at all times to all employees, enforcement of safety program at all times, assistance with completion of accident reports
3. Daily Preparation Tasks
Morning/afternoon duties: daily preparation of all necessary materials, tools, equipment and vehicle; communication with management regarding scheduling and sequencing of assigned jobs.
Job materials: management of job materials, oversight of and communication with management regarding chemical inventory.
Other duties: vehicle maintenance – checking oil, etc. on a biweekly basis or more if needed, fill tank with gas/fill equipment/mix gas at appropriate times, removal of garbage from vehicle on a daily basis, organization of chemical tools, maintenance of chemical application equipment on a weekly basis
4. Paperwork and Communication Requirements
Timecards: ensure you have correct client name and times for individual jobs, ensure time card is completed on a daily basis, double check time cards for accuracy, ensure time cards are turned in every Friday.
Daily worksheets/work orders: complete paperwork on a daily basis; track labor hours used and tasks completed, report job site safety concerns, note conversations with clients, note of individual job site issues that need addressing, track all materials used on each job site; paperwork to be turned in upon job completion.
Track labor hours: aim to finish job at or below the labor hours allotted.
Track broken tools: communication and safety records regarding broken tools and equipment, requests for tool replacements, enforcement of proper use and maintenance of tools.
Communication with clients: discussion of work with clients as necessary, provide clients with chemical information as requested, all major issues shall be directed to upper management, portray professional attitude and demeanor at all times.
Miscellaneous duties: turn in all materials receipts with client name written on them, turn in gas receipts with your name, date and vehicle number written on them, read all assigned educational materials that are presented/available, continuing education and achievement of comprehensive knowledge of plant names, ecology and identification
